OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY

What is Occupational Therapy and Who Might Need It?

In this complicated world of today, some people find it difficult to cope up with the given circumstances. They need help from their friends and known people. There are various kinds of therapy that help these people and Occupational Therapy is one of them.

Let us now take a look at what occupational therapy really is? It is type of treatment that mainly gives importance to help those people who need some assistance to achieve independence in their lives. This therapy is also used to help the kids. It helps the children to be positive. This positive ness towards life is increased with the help of various fun activities. With the help of these activities they are able to improve their skills i.e. physical, motor and cognitive. This helps them in boosting their self-esteem and also achieves a sense of accomplishment.

Many people are of the opinion that an occupational therapist deals with only adults, as they are involved with some occupation or the other. But this is not so. Children are also treated with this therapy. A child’s main activity is to play and learn and the work of the therapist is to evaluate the child with the help of those activities. The therapist makes an assessment of the child after having a look at his/her school performance and daily activities. They also make a comparison with the children of the same age group. American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) has done various studies in this direction. Apart from dealing with one’s physical well being, they also emphasise on having a look at the social, psychology and environmental factors of the client that might pose as a hindrance to their proper development. This unique approach adopted by the therapists makes occupational therapy very important for the kids.
